With an infrared designer radiator, you can save money on your energy bills by utilising the very latest in heating technology.
Infrared heating radiators are one of the most energy efficient heating options available because infrared heats people and surfaces directly rather than the surrounding air. With a range of sizes, finishes and options available, they are a stylish and modern way of achieving a contemporary look in your home, while taking advantage of this heating innovation.
Agadon stocks and supplies a wide range of infrared heating radiators with fast, free UK delivery available. And because we work direct with the manufacturer, we cut out the wholesaler to pass the cost saving on to you, meaning we won’t be beaten on price.
To help you make an informed choice on whether an infrared room radiator is right for you, here is our handy guide:
How do infrared heating radiators work?
Infrared heating is a relatively new addition to the domestic heating market.
Infrared is a type of electromagnetic radiation that sits just beyond the red end of the visible light spectrum, so it’s not actually the heat, but the light that keeps us warm. Waves of invisible light are emitted from the radiator, which travel through the air until they hit an object. The object then absorbs the radiated infrared waves, which cause the molecules within it to vibrate, producing heat.
If infrared waves come into contact with humans, they provide a deep feeling of heat as they enter into the body by about an inch. However, even if you are not directly in front of the waves, the heat will be radiated back towards you when the waves come into contact with any solid surface, such as a wall or furniture.
Are infrared heating radiators safe?
Although infrared heat is similar to the heat generated by the sun, it is 100% safe and natural. The human body is designed and conditioned to accept and emit infrared. It is UV emitted by the sun that is harmful, not infrared. There have been numerous scientific studies conducted into the health effects of different types of infrared, all of these have concluded it is not only safe, but also beneficial.
The water in our skin responds well to this particular type of heat, which helps us to warm up naturally. In fact many people think that walking past an infrared heater feels like walking past a window on a bright, sunny day.
What’s the difference between conventional heating and infrared?
Conventional radiators work by warming up the air around you, mostly through its convection currents. When a radiator warms up, it heats the air directly around it which then expands and rises. As the hot air rises, a vacuum is created which pulls colder air into contact with the radiator, causing it to heat up.
As the hot air begins to cool down, it drops down back to floor level and gets heated again. The cycle, known as convection heating, keeps repeating until the radiator is switched off. As mentioned before, infrared room heaters work by emitting invisible rays of radiation which cause the solid objects they come into contact with to vibrate, creating heat.
