Old radiators vs new radiators
Designer radiators are quality pieces of hardware that are built to last. They usually give many years of high performance but, like all types of household equipment, will gradually start to show signs of general wear and tear over the years. This can mean they don’t continue to function as efficiently as they could or, in extreme cases, can fail completely and lead to leaks and damage to your home.
It’s always worthwhile getting your central heating system checked by a professional, as well as flushing and cleaning your pipework and radiators every year and making sure you bleed your radiators regularly to prevent airlocks and leaks. But, is there any evidence to suggest that old radiators are less efficient than new ones?
Here are our thoughts…
Are old radiators less efficient than new ones?
Manufacturing techniques and technology are advancing all the time, so modern radiators tend to be more efficient and economical to run. Because they come in a wider range of shapes and sizes, and with different heat output ratings and capacities, it’s safe to say that new radiators do tend to be more efficient than old ones. So, ask yourself – is my heating bill higher than I’d like it to be? Is my radiator performing as well as it should? Does anything seem not quite right with my radiators?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, it may be time for an upgrade.
Should I replace my old radiator with a new one?
Only you can answer that question, but if you haven’t maintained your radiators, don’t know their history, or think you may have a problem, then it might be time to consider replacing your old radiator with a new designer radiator from Agadon. Rust, corrosion and blockages can take years to come to light. They may manifest themselves as a cold spot initially but could grow into a problem which affects the overall efficiency of your entire heating system and can lead to a catastrophic failure if left unchecked.
A new designer radiator will go some way to resolving these issues and preserving your system for longer, so it may be cheaper to replace your old radiators now, rather than have to foot the bill for a new, full central heating system in a few years’ time.
