Flexible Electric Designer Radiators

Stunning looks, ultra modern designs, easy to install and cost efficient heating – why more people are choosing electric designer radiators.

Why electric radiators are so flexible

The biggest advantage of electric radiators is their flexibility, as they can be installed virtually anywhere you can get an electric supply to. They can be standalone, and can provide instant heat or a more flexible heating option for cold spots. They are a more efficient way to heat a space when the main home central heating system is switched off. They are available in a variety of styles, so the look of any designer electric radiator addition isn’t a compromise on style.

Which electric radiator technology is best – convection or infrared?

Electric radiators can provide you with the most innovative heating technologies available, making them some of the most popular radiators on the market today. Wall mounted electric radiators come in two main heat options, convection heat and infrared. Although both electric they work to heat the space very differently, so understanding the technologies will help you select the best heating solution for your room.

Standard Electric designer radiators heat by convection

Convection heat, heats a room by warming the air. The electric element in the radiator heats the metal, which then heats the air touching it, which then circulates thermally (hot air rising drawing in cooler air to replace it) until the room temperature rises. This is how a wet system central heating radiator works, except a single radiator can be turned on. This flexibility makes electric convection radiators perfect for bathrooms, en-suites and cloakrooms, as they can be switched on when the rest of the central heating system is shut down when the British summer gives us a colder than expected spell. Kitchens also benefit from electric radiators, as appliances in the room influence the heating needs, making the flexibility of electric heating ideal.

Infrared room radiators work by turning electricity into infrared energy

Infrared room radiators create a heat that is very similar to the sun, which makes infrared panels a more efficient way to heat a space. You’ll often see industrial applications of infrared heating warehouse entrances, or in hospitality garden areas where outside seating is heated by an orange light. However, infrared light isn't visible because it's beyond the spectrum we see – the orange light used in the more industrial applications is simply for effect. This invisible ‘infrared’ light gets absorbed by our skin, clothes and other objects, which is how things around an infrared heater warm up. This makes this technology perfect for spaces which don’t close off and contain the heat, or where you want the heat to be more instant - for example, conservatories and summer houses, linking rooms and other spaces where the need for heat is more instant.

Make the most of the space available

Offering high heat outputs, simple installation and attractive contemporary looks, an electric designer radiator can help you put the finishing touch to your décor, make the most of the space available and turn your heating into an attractive feature. However, buying a new designer radiator for your home can sometimes not be as straightforward as you might think, especially if this is your first time taking the plunge.

How do you calculate the heat output you need from your electric designer radiator?

If you are unsure on the size of the electric radiator you need, you can use our BTU calculator to provide you with a recommendation based on the size of your room. Enter the information requested, room size, room type etc, and our room BTU calculator will provide you with the wattage required. This wattage can then be used to select the best electric radiator model for your specific room.

With so many brands, styles, sizes and colours to choose from, without a bit of expert help, it can be difficult to know where to start.
